Myra Gordon enjoyed a wide variety of careers during her working life. Starting out as a Girl Scout Professional in St. Louis and later for Centrillio Council of Girl Scouts here, she went on to work first as a volunteer and then as Executive Director for Operation Recycle when it was McLean County’s full time recycling center. After graduate school at Illinois State, Myra enjoyed a career at State Farm, retiring in 2006. Beginning in 2007, Myra enjoyed a bonus career as the Executive Director of the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation. She continues to work as a volunteer for a number of non-profit organizations, including the Ecology Action Center and the Immigration Project.

Why plant trees?
Trees provide natural beauty for all to enjoy year-round. From the first buds of spring, to the beautiful fall colors, to the promise for the future of winter’s bare branches, trees enrich our lives.
Trees help improve air quality. Our community is close to exceeding National Ambient Air Quality Standards for ozone, an air quality pollutant that contributes to asthma and other respiratory diseases.
Trees are one of the most cost-effective strategies for carbon sequestration.
Trees help provide watershed protection, increase wildlife habitat, and offer opportunities for recreation areas.
Back in the early days of the Ecology Action Center in the 1970’s and 1980’s, when the organization was known as Operation Recycle, profits from recycling drives were utilized for tree planting efforts at Comlara Park on Evergreen Lake. Those trees are now the wonderful woods that surround much of the lake.
